The story is called “The Thirsty Blacksmith” and it’s in a book called “Scandinavian Fairy Tales.” I’ve had this book since I received it as a Christmas gift more than 40 years ago. The stories are retold by Milos Maly and illustrated by Josef Liesler. The book was published by Hamlyn.
