317U: Richard Scarry Treehouse Scene

My son had a favorite Richard Scarry book from the 1970’s. I think I purchased it at a ToysRUs store around 1978 or 1979. His favorite illustration was a two page illustration of a very detailed treehouse with all the items labeled, as the author did so well. There was a kitten in a basket being hoisted up to the treehouse. The image may have been an end cap of the book. I don’t remember which of the Scarry titles it was but it was one of the hardcover oversized books. I have been searching in vain for about four years now. If I at least knew the title of the book, it would make it a bit easier to find an old copy some day.

317T: The US Constitution for Children

It was a fairly thin book, maybe 10” x 10” with a blue/green hard cover.
It portrayed the constitution as a locomotive engine pulling the Bill of Rights, each amendment represented by a train car featuring an explanation.  Probably published about 55 years ago.  Most interesting book and format to help a kid (me) understand the document.

317S: Boy Attends Fairy Wedding

I’m looking for a vintage, illustrated children’s book that I believe was made in the 1940s or 1950s. In the story, a little boy (just one boy–no siblings or friends) somehow is invited to a fairy wedding and he dances and parties the whole night with the fairies, elves, goblins and toads before he has to go back home. Other details that stand out: he slides down a tunnel to get to an underground area where the “fairyland” is (my mom remembers this tunnel as starting at the base of a tree); he fills a jar with fireflies to make a lamp when walking through a dark place; at some point, either an elf or a toad or a fairy (some magical creature) is caught in something and he helps him escape and is rewarded by being a guest to a party/wedding (I think maybe the caught creature was the groom?); there is a cute little blushing bride who I believe is a fairy or something–I think the party was her wedding, but I’m not sure. My mother also remembers there being a lot of red-capped mushrooms throughout the book. Thanks!

317R: Compilation of Stories Book, Late 1970’s, Early 1980’s

The book was a compilation of stories. It had a brown hard cover & I recall that the book definitely had the Little Match Girl, the selfish giant as one of the stories, & the princess and the pea, but the story I’m wanting to find is of a young boy who I think his mother had to work new years eve & he was left home alone. It was a rainy night and he was looking out the window and a rain fairy appeared, who told him about the rain princess who was in love with the fire prince but they couldn’t be together. Then something along the lines of a fire fairy appearing in his fireplace and giving him a special suit to put on that shrunk him & he could then enter the fire with the fairy. End of story, the fire prince comes out of the fire and he and the rain princess are in love & decide they can’t live without each other so end up kissing which I think was the end of both as the fire was put out by the rain….if that makes any sense! I remember I loved the illustrations in this book, particularly this story. If you have any suggestions, that would be fantastic. Cheers!

317P: Girls Search for Witch Parents with Mouse Father

The book I am looking for is one I read in the mid to late 70’s about a girl (and I think her sister) perhaps named Lydia. Their parents are part of a witch/warlock community that are in some kind of other dimension. Somehow they get abandoned by their parents and go off searching in the other dimension. The whole time they are carrying a mouse in a cage that ends up being their father (complicated family dynamic!). The book is printed with occasional drawings of their adventures including one where they are forced to clean up the kitchen of some captor. I think they end up freeing a dragon whose collar is unlocked by a key that the mouse had – or something like that. I have spent years googling and haven’t been able to turn up anything. Thanks!

317N: A Man with Unoriginal Neighbors

Looking for a children’s (early reader?) book. I read it during the 1970’s but not sure when published. The story line is as follows: a man lived in a house on a street where all houses looked exactly the same. So he paints his house. Everyone paints the same color? He plants a bush. Everyone plants a bush. Not sure if that was the order of sequence as to what he did to make his house look different. I cannot remember the title.
