Read this book when I was around 8, which puts it at 1960. I am sure it was not new at that time.
Written by someone like Thurber or Ogden Nash, it was a collection of children’s short stories. The only one that I can remember clearly was about a little girl who couldn’t read. At the end, when she is being chased by a bull, she comes to the conclusion that reading (words?) are dangerous. The sign she couldn’t read said something like, ‘beware of bull.’

Looking for a children's fairy tale hardcover collection with golden/yellow cover. I think it had a "realistic" illustration on the front or back, of a sleeping kitten on an open book. Contains stories such as Tinderbox, Why The Sea is Salt, Ugly Duckling, Rikki-Tikki-Tavi.
The book we are looking for may have been affiliated with Paulist Press. My brothers and I remember reading it back in maybe the mid to late seventies. It was a hippie/peace kind of book. Probably a book of stories. The pictures below show a distinctive sun image that we have tried to find through Google reverse image searches. The images are likely Photoshopped for copyright reasons. These photos are from Jim Erickson’s photography site. We have reached out to him as part of our quest, but have not heard back.
I'm looking for an elementary textbook from 80s or 90s that had a story about Jokey the Dog, another about a cat that goes to a spa, and small things falling from high places.
When I was little (5, 6?) I was given a lovely little red hardbound book with black embossed lettering and image which was I believe called “Children of the World” or “Children’s Stories of the World” et al. I suddenly remember that it was probably titled “Children from Around the World” or “Stories from Children Around the World” (or “Children’s Stories from Around the World”). I think the pages were double bound. Anyway, it was a birthday gift for me back in 73/74. It had some lovely short prose/stories for younger children. Larger print lettering and color illustrations. Also, it had a great story about a Japanese girl and her brother who celebrate girls and boys days and receive dolls. Thank you for helping me find this lovely and cherished book that was lost along the way in my parents’ global travels.
I had a collection of fairytales in 1990-1995, though it may have been published prior to that (c. 1980-90). It had a royal/dark blue cloth cover with a small, embossed-gold pegasus in the center of the cover (possibly with children riding the pegasus).
The collection was rather thick (perhaps a half inch) and contained at least 20 stories. Each story was illustrated with at least one color illustration on each page (some small alongside the text and some full page). There were different illustrators throughout. The text was regular-sized font.
I specifically remember these stories, though there were more (I’ve listed the more rare first):
When I was a child we had this big storybook with a red cover that must have been published sometime between 1960-1990. I haven’t been able to find it anywhere on the Internet by searching details that I remember and I can’t remember the title. The first story I remember was about an old grumpy man whose bathtub begins to overflow because the bathtub knob gets stuck and he needs the help of the whole community to turn the knob. Everyone comes together to help him even though he is so grumpy and mean. I believe this story was called Hot Water Williams, but again this search phrase pulls up nothing for me on Google. The other story I remember is about a boat of fishermen who overfish and their boat starts to sink. The illustrations were very 70s-style. There were several stories but these are the only two I remember. If anyone can help me find it I would be so happy because it was one of my favorite books ever. I’ve been trying to find it for years.
