338Q: Following the Mysterious Red Thread

The book I want to find is a children’s book. I am guessing it was published between the 1980s and early 1990s. The plot of the story is that these two girls (likely sisters) that are princesses and they find this mysterious red thread in their kingdom or castle. They often repeat “What is it? What is it? What could it be?” as they follow this red thread. Eventually the story ends with them finding where this red thread originated from, it was a large cat playing with a giant roll of red yarn. All pictures are cartoon drawings. I think it was a small hardcover book bound by that gold or silver lining.

338P: Eggs, Eggs, Everywhere

I’m looking for a book I had as a child in the late 70s, early 80s.

It wasn’t a children’s book.  It was a weird small paperback coffee table book doodle book.  I think it was called “Eggs!” or “Yolks!”  It was white, and 5 inches tall, and 8.5 inches wide.  The cover had drawings of anthropomorphised eggs.  Basically the whole book was just drawings of eggs or egg yolks caricatured into people.  So two yolks would be walking a yolk dog, with a yolk sun, and yolk egg people walking around.  The artist drew the yolks in such a way as to make the yolks pointy into the shape of a nose, with little black line eyes.  The entire book was only black ink with yellow ink, on white pages.  I can’t find it anywhere.  One drawing had an egg yolk carrying an umbrella, and the umbrella was made out of a runny egg, with of course a yolk.
All of it was ridiculous, but I want to find a copy, so I don’t feel like I’m crazy, and just imagined a segment of my childhood.  I need to find this book so I don’t think I have a whole set of made up memories.  I’ve tried countless Google searches, and I am stumped for terms to look up runny yolk art?  It’s definitely not Gudetama.  It’s much older and outdated.  Thank you for your help.

338O: Girl searches for spinet-playing doll (Solved!)

I’m looking for a book that was written probably in the 1960’s, possibly early 1970’s.  I think the title contained the words “secret friends”. It is about a girl and her best friend who stumble across a mystery involving 2, or maybe 3, mechanical dolls. Her father owns an antique store. He has one of the dolls, a girl sitting at a desk who dips a pen in an inkwell and writes. The other is a girl playing the spinet. I remember the clue to the mystery was found inside the doll.

338N: Book of Marys (Solved!)

I am looking for a young adult book, dating back to the mid 1930s, with 12 chapters. Each chapter is devoted to a famous woman named Mary–Mary Queen of Scots, Mary Tudor (Bloody Mary), Mary Lyon and 9 others. The cloth bound volume was blue.

338M: YA fiction Ruby Cross of Acapulco (Solved!)

I’ve been searching for this book for years. I read it in the 6th grade, twenty-one years ago. My old teacher didn’t remember it, and I don’t recall the title or author. It seems that it was an older book, possibly from the 50s or 60s. There were a couple black and white sketches in it.
I remember most of the plot. A girl named Samantha lived in Boston with her mother (father deceased), who then died, leaving her an orphan. Her mother’s dying words were something to the effect of keeping the family heirloom safe. A ruby cross stolen from Acapulco.
Samantha is sent to live with her relatives in Hawaii (during the life of Princess Liliuokalani – I think she even had tea with her, or met her in the story). She has a cousin her own age and she experiences lots of new things there, but trouble turns up as men seeking the ruby cross, which she hid in a cave. She ends up kidnapped and having to show them where it is, but is rescued my a family friend, Andrew. All ends well. She ends up marrying Andrew, and they return the cross to Acapulco at the end of the book.

338L: Boy in India Who Gathers Orchids to Buy Books

Please help me find a book I read 30+ years ago. The plot is about a young, very poor boy in India (I believe) who gathers rare Orchids to sell to a rich white (I believe) woman. With the money he earns, he is able to buy books. The books are rare and precious treasures to him. Every time he finds a rare orchid she buys it and he hides his money under his sleeping mat until he has enough to buy a book. I will try to remember more if possible. Thank you, this is a book that has stayed in my memory and I wish to find and read it again.

338K: Baby Dinosaur Can’t Pronounce His Favorite Snacks

I’d love your help trying to find a favorite book of mine from my childhood. I was born in 1989 and I feel like this book was published sometime in the early 90s, but I am not 100% sure.
Here’s what I remember: a younger dinosaur wants a snack, but his caregiver (I think his mother) can’t understand what he’s saying when he tells her what he’d like to eat. I specifically remember two of the snacks he requests are jelly beans and donuts. Instead of “jelly beans” or “donuts” however, he says something like “Belly jeans” or “blownuts.”

338J: A Day at the Beach

I’m almost certain the title of the book was either “A Day at the Beach” or “Beach Day” or some such thing. It was a children’s picture book that looked like it was from the mid to late 1980s or early 1990s. It was about a group of dogs who spend a day at the beach. They drive a (red?) car to the beach with a beach umbrella, there’s sand in one of the dog’s sandwiches, a crab pinches one of their toes, and then they pack up, shake out the sand from the blanket, and head home. The colours were kind of muted, there weren’t a lot of words per page, but it wasn’t quite on the level  of “See Spot Run” or anything.
Any help or leads would be greatly appreciated!

338I: Kids trapped in house, chased by a mummy and Anubis

I am looking for a children’s book I read between 1985-1988. Maybe a scholastic book. It had a dark yellow paper back cover. It was a mystery book. It was geared for the 3rd to 5th grade crowd.

It was about a boy and a girl (siblings maybe) that were trapped in a house.  There was a mummy and a statue of Anubis that came alive and chased them around the house. The whole book took place in one night

Please help me. I have been going crazy trying to remember!

338H: English girl falls in love with the boy next door, eventually (Solved!)

I have been searching for a book I remembered for years and then I heard about you guys. I have no idea if you can help me because it isn’t a children’s book, but it’s worth a chance. It’s from before 2006 because I read it when I was in high school (wow!) from the library.
I believe it is set in England. The main character is a girl and she is friends with the boy next door since they were little kids. She goes to prom with a guy, has sex and ends up getting pregnant. I think she continues to live with her parents after she has the baby, which is a girl. Her friend ends up needing to move to America. They stay in contact over email. Some of the book has the reader read their conversation like an email.
Her dream is to manage a hotel one day and after working her way up the ladder, she does. I remember her describing how the chandelier looked in the hotel and how elegant and beautiful it was. Eventually, she realizes she loves the boy (now a man) next door. He has a child with someone and it was a boy. I think at the end of the book he moves back to England and their children become friends or something and I am pretty sure they end up professing their love for one another.
I look forward to seeing if you can find the book. It’s the last one from my childhood I couldn’t remember that I can’t get out of my head.
