I am trying to think of a book that we purchased at a homeschool conference when I was a kid (early 2000s). I seem to remember the setting being an aristocrat Russian household, and my vivid memory is of a boy (maybe a servant) trying to get rid of warts by using a frog at midnight… this is perhaps in the setting of a prank? But I think the main protagonist was female. I’d love to figure this out!

A book I read to my daughter in the 70s about a man (Russian?) who had a (Russian?) dancing bear. The man had 3 unique things about him: (1) he could juggle 3(?) balls, (2) he was kind, and (3) can’t remember the third.

I’m looking for a British book written probably between 1946 and 1953. About a group of teenagers and a professor who escape world apocalypse by petrification in a balloon. They travel all over the petrified world and visit the USSR where they topple Stalin’s petrified soldiers like dominoes. I remember thinking the book to be very gory for a children’s book. My Mom read this book when she was a teenager and said the author was fairly well known in Britain at the time.
